    In 1997, Jim and Beverly Harbin planted an urban church, the Raleigh Community Church of Christ in a storefront on Covington Pike in Memphis, Tennessee.  Today, Jim continues to lead the Raleigh Community Church of Christ as the Senior Minister.   Through a variety of partnerships and collaborations, the church is a hub of ministry and a blessing to the community of Raleigh, Frayser, north Memphis, as well as portions of Bartlett.   Jim’s focus now is developing leaders and multiplying ministries in a biblically based ministry called Phuteia.

Phuteia

 

     We are excited to introduce a new urban church planting ministry called Phuteia.  Phuteia is the English form of the Greek word (φυτεία) meaning a plant.  In our usage, the word Phuteia means a church plant.   The unique aspect of our new church planting ministry is not the name Phuteia, rather, it is the focus of our ministry in planting urban churches.  Urban churches were formerly called “inner city churches.”  However, inner city churches are no longer located in the heart of downtown areas, but  have been displaced throughout the city due to urban renewal.

 

      Phuteia is a way for Jim to seriously engage in “kingdom work” and spreading the Gospel through an intentional and strategically process of multiplication of ministers and churches.  According to Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, this is a biblically based process .

 

     We are now praying for God to raise up men and women of peace to form urban church plant teams.  We are seeking individuals who have a calling to serve God, but have not been given the opportunity.  If you have a heart for church planting please contact us so that we can initiate the process.  We will train you and help you develop into a successful minister equipped to plant urban churches. #phuteia.
